Bidriware is a metal handicraft made from a zinc alloy base that is blackened and decorated with intricate silver inlay designs. It is famous for its floral motifs, geometric patterns and fine craftsmanship.
History Origin Of Bidriware
Bidriware originated in the 14th century in Bidar, Karnataka, during the reign of the Bahmani Sultanate. It is believed to have been introduced by Abdullah bin Kaiser, an Iranian craftsman invited by Sultan Ahmed Shah Bahmani.
The craft combines Persian metal inlay techniques with the skills of Indian artisans, creating a unique style known for its black metal base and intricate silver inlay work. Over the centuries, Bidriware has been preserved and passed down through generations, with Bidar continuing to be its traditional and most renowned centre.
